I've always found artist statements to be exceedingly difficult to write, if for no other reason than their inherently reductive nature. The truth is I have no idea why I'm compelled to make art, only that I am, and that it's the act of creation itself, beyond and above any specific goal or even the quality of the finished product, that motivates me.
I make art to document, and I suppose make sense of, the world around me. My mediums are primarily oils, but also collage, cyanotype, or anything else I can use as a medium of expression. How successful I am at expressing it is not for me to say.
All I know is I want you to look at my work and FEEL. Because what else is there? Artist statements are ultimately redundant, because art IS the statement. My only hope is that you listen.
